Flame retardant work jackets that protect you
If you have a job that carries a risk of your clothing coming into contact with fire and sparks, it is important to have the right work jacket with the right certification. Protect yourself with a flame retardant work jacket or welding jacket. There are work jackets with two different flame retardant certifications:
EN ISO 14116 - protective clothing with limited flame spread
The standard EN ISO 14116 is for protective clothing, materials and material combinations with limited flame retardant properties. Work jackets with this standard reduce the possibility of the jacket catching fire and putting you at risk. Products with this certification protect only against brief contact with heat and sparks. Flame retardant clothing reduces flame spread, meaning that the risk of your clothes catching fire and putting you in danger is minimized with the EN ISO 14116 certification. The standard is divided into three classes, of which index 3 is the highest level.
If, however, you are at risk of being exposed to substantial heat and fire, you will need additional protection which is available with the standard EN ISO 16112, and extra accessories that can protect your hands, face and more.
EN ISO 16112 - protective clothing against excessive heat and fire
The standard EN ISO 11612 means protective clothing for those working in places where your clothes are at risk of coming into contact with substantial heat and fire. Fire retardant jackets will protect you against exposure to substantial fire and heat, should you be exposed to these at work. The clothing is classified according to different parameters such as radiant heat, contact heat, etc. which are represented by letters. The number after each letter indicates the level. The higher the level, the safer it is. Combine several pieces of flame retardant clothing to achieve greater protection.
Layer-upon-layer for better protection
In order to achieve better protection against substantial heat and fire, you may wish to combine multiple pieces of fire retardant clothing to achieve the necessary level of protection. When wearing 2 or 3 layers of protective clothing, your reaction time and thus your protection against heat and fire are increased. Be aware, however, that the protection is reduced if you wear a flame retardant work jacket in combination with other items that are not fire retardant.
